Who We Are
The ESCXEL Project – Network of Schools of Excellence, created in 2008 within the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences of NOVA University Lisbon (NOVA FCSH), is a scientific, educational and institutional initiative that brings together the University, Municipalities and Schools with the aim of promoting the continuous improvement of educational outcomes and the quality of local education systems.
The project is grounded in an integrated approach that prioritises collaboration among educational stakeholders, the systematic analysis of data and monitoring of educational processes, capacity-building for those involved, and the structured sharing of experiences and good practices across territories.
How We Work
This model supports processes of strategic reflection and informed decision-making, while recognising the diversity of educational and territorial contexts.
The ESCXEL Network represents the collaborative and operational dimension of the ESCXEL Project, giving practical expression to its work through cooperation between Schools, Municipalities and the University.
Its intervention is underpinned by its own longitudinal, comparative and contextualised methodological models, enabling the analysis of educational outcomes over time, the identification of performance patterns, the signalling of areas for improvement, and the support of educational strategy development at both municipal and school levels.
The work developed is complemented by training initiatives, thematic seminars, forums for reflection and situational diagnostics, fostering a culture of cooperation, organisational learning and continuous improvement among the various educational stakeholders involved.
The Network Today
The ESCXEL Network currently includes 32 School Clusters / Single Schools, representing a total of 156 school units distributed across the municipalities of Amadora, Castelo Branco, Constância, Ferreira do Alentejo, Mação, Óbidos, Oeiras and Sardoal.
Through the articulation of research, strategic reflection and educational practice, the ESCXEL Network promotes a culture of learning, collaboration and continuous improvement, contributing to more informed, contextualised and equitable educational responses, aligned with the challenges and needs of educational communities and oriented towards strengthening their resilience.
